I finally found the time to create a couple more. They are going out tonight as prizes for my Church's bingo. I didn't have time to take decent photos in the sunlight so I apologize for the poor quality of the photos under my shop lights. Blue Agate Blue Agate Rhyolite Rhyolite

Those are great looking knives! Do you have to dismantle the knives before making the rock handles? connrock

Those are great looking knives! Do you have to dismantle the knives before making the rock handles? connrock Most of the blanks I buy are already made, just waiting for handles. I have dismantled a couple of finished knives and put new handles on them. A lot of people seem to prefer cutting the stone to fit between the bolsters and shaping the stone in the knife. Coming from a lapidary background I think I prefer doing all of the rough shaping on a dop stick and putting the stone in the knife for final shaping and polishing. It is hard to fit the knife inside my Genie with all the wheels installed. I need to make some spacers so I can remove wheels to give me more room.

Thanks for the info,,,, I had to make spacers for my Genie when I made knife handles and a few big intarsia pieces I made too.I used everything from big washers to a few nuts for sink traps,,,,just about anything that would fit over the 1" shaft fairy tight so I didn't knock everything out of balance. It's a real pain in the neck but it is what it is and that's that! connrock

I bought a 60 grit and a couple other wheels for my Genie and they fit different then some of the others. I think the hub was narrower so the nut did not snug up to the wheels. I bought 1" white plastic pipe couplings, for 1" OD pipe, and cut them to different thicknesses for spacers. I also cut the spacer that came with the Genie to different thicknesses, as in 2/5 - 3/5, so I can use them against the wheels. I wanted the larger diameter to help stabilize the wheels. Now I just put a combination together that will work for the wheels to snug up. I can use 1, 2, or 3, wheels to do any size cab I want. The right side isn't as easy to work with but they can be changed also...........................MrP
