I have been working on this knife on and off since December. The handles are Lawsonite (Blue G) I found around Panoche Hills. It also has clear patches of quartz and random flecks of mica. The soft mica gives the surface a pitted texture which I think makes it easier to grip. The handles are Model 1911 pistol size, but I made them flat and thicker instead of rounded off.

Awesome knife! I'm always very disappointed that in Texas we are not permitted to carry double edged knives. For that matter, in the state made famous for the Bowie knife, Bowie knives are illegal as most have blades that exceed Texas's 5 1/2 inch limit......Mel

The Lawsonite goes well with the metal finish on the knife. Good job!

Beautiful... do you buy your blades or are you a metal smith too? I get my blades from Premium Knife Supply on ebay. They have a website, but with a little patience you can easily get cheaper from them on ebay. There are a couple of other ebay sellers that sell the exact same knives, but their selection is not as large.

For that matter, in the state made famous for the Bowie knife, Bowie knives are illegal as most have blades that exceed Texas's 5 1/2 inch limit......Mel Same problem in Cali. The solution is to make the exact same knife, but the "second" edge is done with a "false edge"; one that looks good but is too thick to sharpen. In Kommiefornia we can collect them. We can't carry them. No knife is illegal in the home. Just if found or used in public. Oh yeah, here we don't have a blade length limit either. Barclay, your lapidary work seems flawless. Nice work! I agree with Lee, the lawsonite makes a durable and complimentary handle material for your steel.

Beautiful! Is the whole knife your creation? Some more pics from different angles would be great, if you please.

I am afraid I already gave the knife to the happy customer so no more photos Currently I am working a pair of Swiss army type knives using Cady Mountain red moss agate. That stuff is hard so the going is slow, but they should polish up nicely.
