Went for a long drive today and was near the Birmingham area and found what I think may be citrine. There was also some dolomite, quartz, and this reddish/pinkish stuff too.

It was all over the place too. I could have had a bucket full if I had more time. I got maybe a few pounds that will eventually make it's way into the tumbler.

All Quartz... Citrine is transparent to my knowledge and very hard to find. It has a distinctive color also. The yellow in yours is probably iron oxide if its like the stuff I find.

I agree with glennz01 that the material isn't citrine, but it is definitely interesting when backlit.
Is the rock hard? If it will scratch glass, I'll hazard a guess that it is yellow aventurine. Basically, semi-translucent quartzite (metamorphic sandstone) that comes in a wide range of colours including yellow and pink.
Good luck with the ID and tumble.
Darryl.

Scratched it with very little effort. Hope the wife doesn't see this cause she might not be so happy
