Looks to me like it broke on an existing fracture. Not the same as a break from a hammer.
Its not jadeite if it broke that easily without an existing fracture.

When I hit it with a hammer,it fractures like an obsidian would or chert....

Scott, Most of the Jurassic coast range "jasper" in California including Morgan Hill, those Franciscan melanges, Stone Canyon etc are supposed to be radiolarian chert where the silica is of organic origin. The Hunters Valley chert/poppy jasper etc are also radiolarian chert. Whereas, stuff like Lavic Siding is actually jasper where the origin of the silica is volcanic ash etc....Mel

translucent chert should make great cabs and knapping . heating it may make it more knappable and may change the color,not that green is bad at all .
