I found a decent piece of gypsum in a stream near college station. It is mostly clear with some dark green moss looking stuff on/inside it that won't come off with water. 2 questions: is it normal to find gypsum in the Brazos valley? How do I clean it?

It's a 6 inch long, clear crystal. So I guess technically it's selenite. I'll try and get on my computer tonight and post a picture. I'm on my phone right now.
