This has been a good weekend so far. My 15 yr old got the lapidary bug again and found a piece of my scrap Fordite. The scrap was this exact shape and size. He just rounded all the corners and created the dome. He was intrigued by how the pattern kept changing as he worked on it. Its probably been over a year since he cabbed anything but it sure came out great. He took pride in it and even sat with me and listened to my instructions while I wrapped it. As much as he might like to keep it he is starting to save for a car so I think he sees dollar signs in rocks at the moment. Chuck (and Darren)

Well done, Darren! I wish I could get Bryan to try cabbing. The only thing he's interested in is polishing Petoskey stones. He just got a $75 check from a gift shop where he has some for sale, so I guess it does pay something.

Well that one sold in record time. Lets see if the money peaks his interest, lol
One of his Aunts had asked for a Fordite pendant awhile ago so he emailed her the photo and she bought it.

Darren still seems more interested in the business end. He is at the computer right now putting items on etsy. I pay him by the hour for taking the photos and making the listings. He is on the yearbook staff at school and likes that kind of stuff so it works out great. Chuck

Nicely done free form cab. He has a good eye. It is nice to see our younger generation keeping our hobby/trade alive.

A great cab and one can understand why he was fascinated with the emerging pattern. Love hearing about the younger generation learning... Our Gem & Mineral club holds a small show every year, it's wonderful to see the young ones fall in love with rocks and get excited about what they can do with them.
