Having just recently purchased a Nikon D3300, I took photos of some material that DesertEagle sent me: Sorry about the poor photography. My lighting must not be that good, composition isn't the greatest either: This one is a little better. Can anybody give me an idea of what the pinkish colored slab might be? I see some quartz, along with little pieces of lace agate, green stuff, and what appears to be some sort of red moss agate on the lower right: I'm not sure what that middle stone is. It may be some sort of pet wood, or coprolite perhaps. Not sure, your guess is as good as mine. That moss agate on the right shows a little better in this photograph: Some green stuff, some whitish stuff, along with a little McDermitt petrified wood: Let me know what you think. I know the picture taking isn't the best, but at least the lens appears to be a heck of a lot better than an iPhone!

I think your images are currently unavailable. I prefer photobucket.

Yeah nice rock. I think the photos are good too. Focus is fine and a lot of details can be seen. Enjoy the new camera and post lots of rock pics!

Very nice. I haven't been able to figure out the lighting on mine.

Thanks for the comments so far. Well, I uploaded a raw image to my computer, then directly to Flickr. I added one stop to the exposure, and then sharpened the image on the site. On lighting: I have that set to automatic, and use a lamp that emits light similar to sunlight to capture the most accurate colors I can, given the circumstances. This seems to work OK.

Looks like a nice batch, the pics aren't too bad - always takes a little time & a couple hundred shots of playing with the settings for me to get a new camera dialed in, but looks like you are off to a good start!!

I'm glad to see that there's still some interest in this thread. I'll be adding some photos of new material in the near future. I just acquired a few Lake Superior agates, and will also be getting a few pounds of rough Botswana, and some tumbler-sized Lakers to start working on.
