Picked up 5.5lbs of this material, pretty interesting looking rough - won't be able to cut for a while due to the cool temps but I was wondering if any other members have worked with this material as there seems to be very little info out there. I'll take some pics & get them posted in the specimen section when I get the chance.
Thanks, Gene

It was featured in a recent Lapidary Journal. I haven't worked with it. Same man named another rock for his other daughter, too.

Read up on it a bit. Mexican in origin. Another he named Kaleyite comes from the same vein. Looks almost like a crazy lace variant in some shots but in others not so much. I think the Kaleyite is prettiest of the two. One example he pictured is kind of like a compact red lace. Awesome new agate.....Mel

I have a barrel of the Kailey agate, there was very little of the Jessite that came out, if you got some you got lucky.

So Tony, have you any more information on the origin of the material other than in the one listing I was able to Google? Is it actually a Mexican material. I've never before seen ether of the materials at a show down here which surprises me as we see a lot of Mexican stuff......Mel

February 2014 issue of Lapidary Journal has lots of beautiful photos. Also talks about the other stone found and named after other daughter., Kayley. Spelling might be wrong. Kayley not available.

Pat - I've seen it spelled a couple different ways to include kaley & kailey Fossilman - some of us have jobs other than just hounding, cutting & polishing - be patient that I don't make ya wait till the sun actually comes out up here - that may be months away :-)

Good to know, azgnoinc . Lapidary Journal has it as "Midnight Kaily --- a combination of tenorite and hematite streaked with vivid blue azurite running through the black, and chrysocolla in the rind -- has been found only in one nodule and is not available commercially" . John Heusler found both. At the time article was written, stone was found only in one mine in Mexico. Re Jessite: "Approximately 3-4 tons are expected to be available in Quartzite in January, and January/February in Tucson at the Kino Sports Complex (formerly Tucson Electric Park)". Hardness 7.
