I am fortunate to be spending a couple of days near Pueblo doing some training for work. Doesn't look like I will get any daylight hours to go hounding anywhere but picked a few rocks from some gravel. This material seems to be plentiful here. It looks like some sort of chalcedony but I am not sure. Here are two pics that may provide enough for someone to tell. Thanks.

Darn Photobucket wouldn't let me crop the other photo. So I retook it and here it is. Nice creamy texture to it. In any case I will fill my pockets as much as I can today.

Found something similar looking along railroad tracks. Think its some sort of slag glass. You try scratch testing it yet?

Traveling by plans and don't have so much as a pocket knife to give it a scratch. Will do that when I get home. More inclined to the jasper end of the world. It is mixed in with other crushed stoned, granites and some others with the same sheen, just plain gray though.

Pueblo is a big ore processing area (was for decades) and the slag or mining by-product hypothesis is the best one, on the basis of meager information. If you said it was soft I'd want you to check for olivine, serpentine, and stuff in that family, but you say its shiney so not much chance. You can always use a piece of quartz as a scratch test implement. Better yet, Jump in the rental and go to the Gold Mine Rock Shop just W of Canon City and prospect with your credit card. You won't regret the trip, but you will have to stop at the PO to ship some stuff. Tom
