Hello everyone,
This is my birthstone and it is one of my favorites. I have a number of LSA with amethyst in them (can't wait to polish those up).
In the first pic I got the amethyst from a friend of mine who found it on a landscaping job buried in the earth here in central Minnesota. It was in an area that was covered in lots of brush - no one had even been in that small patch of land for years wich leads me to believe it was there naturally. I have included pics of the other sides of this big rock. Hmmm, it makes me wonder what other rocks are out there in MN, I have been trying to find out what other rocks and crystals by looking on the Minnesota DNR website to find out but it is not much help. I just think that with the volcanoes that were here millions of years ago there must be other semi-precious gems out there. Well that is just my thoughts.

This one I got through Ebay and it came from South Dakota.

Loves me some amethyst. Can't wait to see what they look like all cleaned up and shiny.

I can't help but wonder. The photo is not quite clear enough. But the crystals look to me like "rhombs" of calcite rather than "points" of quartz. Can this possibly be a really bitchin' calcite cluster?
Kelly, if you deign to check, a push pin will scratch calcite, but not quartz.
