Hello! I'm an older noob returning to a childhood fascination with pretty rocks, and came across this forum while doing research on what sort of tumbler to get. My online life is sporadic, but this looks like a good place to come when I need advice and information.
(I think I'll be happiest with a Lot-O-Tumbler single barrel vibratory tumbler, so any advice on the best place to get one and anything about running one would be very welcome!)

Welcome to the forum. Try The Rock Shed. I think they are Lotto dealers and very nice people. Even better they know what they are doing so can advise as well as just make a sale.

I love my Lot-O, but I always start my rocks in a rotary tumbler. After they're shaped and free of holes, I move them to the Lot-O for all the other stages.
I agree that the Rock Shed is the best place to buy tumblers. They have a discount on rough rock and grit when you purchase one too.

Thank you, Jugglerguy and Fossilman! I've checked the Rock Shed, and the tumbler's out of stock. I've sent them an email to see when it might be back in stock.
Prices on grit and other supplies really seem to vary wildly from site to site. Is there a difference in brands or something that I'm missing? (I understand about grit differences; I mean the price difference in one vendor's 220 from another's.)

Welcome from MI, Lot-O was my choice for starting out, too,( older newbie like you, here only since March of 2014). I have been happy with My Lot-o so far. I went to the Rock Shed for my tumbler, and was happy with their service and prices. Think of the variety of prices in stores for the same/similar items and how much they vary... same thing with the internet. Lots of good info in the posts on the forum. Members here are experienced, helpful, and supportive. A great place to start. Glad you are with us!
