Local G&M club held our annual Christmas dinner which include auctions of slabs and stock from a very old collection donated to the club. I picked up these slabs in the silent auction. With the exception of the Lapis lace, the other three are regionally local. I am super excited about the sapphires in matrix, one of the older club members remembers the trip when they collected the rough back in the 50s.... Cheers Channel wood Lapis lace from Turkey Limb cast Sapphires in matrix llanoite

Very cool. Some of us Texicans call that first one shrinkwood. That last one is llanoite ( llanite, lanite). The blue spots are supposed too be blue euhedral quartz, not sapphires. The pinkish are feldspar. Still pretty stuff anyway. I've been to the collecting site on Hwy 16 several times....Mel

Sabre52 as always you are a wealth of knowledge - quick search, visual confirmation that is llanoite. I was misinformed, but still please with my purchase - and of course supporting our club. So as corrected this is not a regionally local material either. Locally we call shrinkwood, channel wood - but yeah same stuff. The big limbcast slab looks like seafoam.... I have tried searching for Lapis Lace but not a lot on the interweb about it. I guess its not around much anymore. Thanks again Mel for the correction. Cheers

*L* Daniel Stinkwood. Good one. Sometimes it does smell a little weird when you cut it. I love shrinkwood/channel wood. The examples with high contrast like that pictured are freaking great looking.....Mel
