Howdy folks, Been working on about 20# of Stone Canyon in two different barrels. Love this stuff. Really a fun tumble. This barrel full is two weeks in and maybe a pound of the total is already set aside for fine grind. Need at least ten pounds or so to start up the UV-10 for the finishing stages....Mel

Coming right along! Looking forward to update pictures, as Stone Canyon is my next tumble once I finish up the two 15 pound barrels of Dallasite that I've been working on.

Looked up Stone Canyon jasper on images. It's striking. Seems like pieces of cay that dried and cracked, then silicified. Well healed at that.

Riverrock: Nope, I'm not allowed to use anything from my wife's kitchen under threat of maiming or death *L*
Batch appears to be rounding rather well. I recently got a 45# carton of 80 grit from Kingsley and it seems to work even better than 60/90 split grit. Price was incredible as they shipped in a larger flat rate carton. It's odd to me that Stone Canyon seems a really tough jasper to slab, yet seems to tumble faster than a lot of other types. I've seen that with jasper from the Firefly pit at Hunters Valley too. Don't really know why...Mel

Hey Mel, any updates (meaning pictures!) on the Stone Canyon batch? Also, in the picture below (your pic obviously) what are the two stones at the 6 and 11 positions with pink. Gotta get some of that stuff if it can still be found!

Bob, The one at 11 O'clock is one of a few chips I found in the Stinky Horse Hole pit. Never found anymore of that stuff. The one at six is from another undug site I found in the brush on the hill above the old Sierra Jasper pit. It occurred in a big vein. I have one large boulder of it in the rock garden that I almost killed myself dragging out through the manzanita. Closest I've ever come to heatstroke. The tumble is a chip I knocked off while chiseling out the vein piece. Wish I had dug that site more but man that was a hot, hard to access spot........Mel

Mel, I am thinking that you need to take a vacation just to go back and check on your old dig sites and that I should probably chaperone to make sure you don't get into any trouble!
just sayin'...

*L* Bob, I believe Dr. Trumbull has all that hill under claim now. There were a lot of undug sites on that hill too but all were simply buried by 60 years worth of manzanita growth. Doubt they will ever be found again unless someone crazy as me and Tom wants crawl on their bellies to follow the bear and pig trails beneath the brush. Sometimes, finding the rocks ain't the problem but the getting the rocks out, well that's another issue......Mel
