I just finished a batch in the Lot-O. Here it is: Some day, I'd like to make a rosary out of rocks I've done myself. This was an experiment in bead making. The beads are a little big and they didn't round up as much as I expected. I made cubes and then ground off the corners. Then they spent a few weeks in my rotary tumbler before moving to the Lot-O. I swear they got more cube shaped after tumbling. I wasn't going for perfection, but more random shaped pebbles. I'll try again. This is one of my biggest tumbles ever: The red one on the top is sort of a curved slab. I can't remember how it got that way. I must have broken one along a fracture. There's another piece in the batch that is from the same rock.

Those are some fine unakite Rob. Great tumble quality. Looks like you did some serious shaping, crosses seem like a challenge. Headed out to grind a few for a new load. You treated me well on those.

I'm glad you're enjoying them. I didn't do any shaping other than the crosses and beads. Just normal tumbling.

Do you ever find that you get a lessor polish on the big tumbles ?

unakite/epidote endlessly fascinating stuff... some of those pieces have so much depth.. you could get lost. I like the beads shaped the way they are and it would make it great piece of jewelry strung with small copper round beads between each one... watching closely.

Looks like beauties from my neck of the woods. I had been wondering about trying to create beads in the same manner. I hope to try it soon with various shapes. I know my vib tumbler won't round off the edges to the same extent but I plan on trying it.

I think my next attempt might be with a core bit. If I cut small cylinders and then tumble them, they might look ok.
