Very well done. Are the scales glued on, or is there another fastening mechanism?

Looking very good!
Maybe you might tell your Mom not to put the knife in the dishwasher. That epoxy would probably withstand to occasional moist caused by use and by careful hand-wash, but washing it repeatedly in the washing machine is something else.

Adrian Cannot hurt to be careful with a family heirloom like that. Plus the drying element in the dishwasher makes it really hot in there. Paul, have you thought of shaping your own blades from sheet steels on a belt sander? You can add your own flair that way!

Paul, have you thought of shaping your own blades from sheet steels on a belt sander? You can add your own flair that way! That is good advice, hand wash on the gentle cycle and dry immediately. Do not fold, spindle or mutilate. I had to salvage the handles off of a knife when the customer tried using it as a pry bar and bent the locking mechanism. I used a heat gun to get the glue to debond. I am sure a dishwasher would do the same over time. I have not thought about making my own blades. A belt sander would have been really good to have working with this large piece of stone. I have kind of run out of space in my little corner of the garage. I have thought about getting one of those large cheap Harbor Freight work tables to expand my working area, but that would involve reorganizing the rest of the junk in the garage. I have thought of adding wood to the stone handles, but that would mean dry sanding and more tools so I am not there yet.

I'm not normally entranced by knives, even those with rock handles. However, this knife is beautiful! I think you Mother will love it! Thanks for showing.
