Assembling Christmas gifts, I decided to snap a few photos of pendants made from petrified woods and they seemed to represent an interesting and broad array of colors and textures. so . . . here are a few and I'll add to this later. One shows actual bark. The one beside is appears to be opalized wood, and relatively soft. The grey and black of opalized wood take a nice polish, but because they are prone to fractures even as extracted from the ground the shapes must be what jumps out as the stone is worked. I seek out specimens with the whorls of knots and grain. And the last two specimens are favorites. Thanks for looking. All of this comes from the Rio Puerco of NM or the adjacent Rio Grande. supposedly pine, poplar, and ?? but we do find some palm material and I'm presuming many species of wood. Tom

Love your petwood pendant, Peruano! What kind of wood is it? Which tablet are you using? Heck, I don't know how you posted the links to your photos with it, much less upload photos with one. Is the tablet mainly for reading? I love to read and have a Nook Color and Samsung Nook Galaxy Tab 4 for reading. The Tab 4 is set-up like our Samsung phones, and you can download B&N books, Google Books and books from Amazon (mobi). Lots of free books to read on Open Library's website, too. If you enjoy gemstones and the jewelry industry, I recommend reading some of Gerald A. Browne's novels.

Its just an Android tablet by Dell, but not having a keyboard simple ops like cut and paste become special challenges when trying to upload fotos. I'll get it, but need to practice. I carry it when traveling. Tom

Photos and pendants dialed in. The way you did the wood shows it's natural state. Great variety of wood too.

Beautiful pet wood pendants, and glad you uploaded the other photos, Peruano. Did you self-collect all of the pet wood pictured?

Gingerbrat, Yes unless noted, all were collected by me, and unless noted locally in Central New Mexico. I enjoy sawing off pendant sized slabettes and working them a bit on the cab machine before tumbling - or sometimes just cabbing them straightout for pendants. A few more examples follow. This one is obviously palm wood. Palm wood with distinctive colored tubules. And the other side of that one. More typical woods. The black and whites can be stiking. The one on the right I call red agate but some folks swear its an agatized pet wood, I don't know. The one on the left is obviously pet wood from Arizona. and the one in the middle is a dup pictured previously in this thread, but from Central New Mexico. Money clip with contrasting wood And one soon to be a pendant. Thanks for looking. Its fun to see the variety nature presents. Tom

nice looking rocks, wood is one of my favorite rocks, especially the agatized stuff. I like how you've made pendants out of them.

Those are some very nice pendants. Do you finished them in a rotary or a vibe? I like how the natural texture is still intact

I usually do a bit of preforming with my grinder and then do the final finishing with a vibratory tumbler. Thanks for the kind words. Tom

Those are beautiful, too, Peruano! Is the one in your 5th photo on the right side groove-wrapped? Agree with snowmom that the last one is da bomb! Really like the money clip!
