1dave, I agree. captbob, how many FRBs is that? I did buy a one pound piece of rainbow in Q a couple years ago for $25, but it was awesome. Other than that, I've got some great quality obsidian for $1-$3/ pound. Shoot me a PM with some pics. I'm interested. |

Belief that rocks have healing properties is ages old. Most of us discount the supposed benefits as quackery in this age of science. I was "into" the metaphysical properties of rocks for a short while. Many ancient peoples used rocks for their healing and or protective properties. One thing I found interesting was that disconnected groups often attributed the same "powers" to the same rocks. American Indian and Celtic tradition are surprisingly close, nearly identical, in each rock's healing qualities.
For me rocks are healers. Having a bad day ... go hound a few rocks ... always makes my day to find something cool. Not that I'm overly stressed or anything but my Saturdays cleaning out the tumblers are very relaxing and rewarding.

Regardless of what anyone believes or says, I will believe what I see with my own eyes. In this age of science we can find out why the rocks do what they do. We now know that every living cell receives an electro magnetic frequency at 7.8Hz from schumann waves. Everything on earth has a specific frequency and it is my theory that these frequencies can be picked up on a cellular level.

The - this stone will help your liver (whatever) stuff is loony tunes in all my books, but I think that merely looking at or working with them is where any "metaphysical" benefits may come into play. I have a display case of mineral specimens right behind my desk chair here. If I am unsettled <---- catchall word) for whatever reason, simply spinning the chair around and looking at the rocks in there can bring a peacefulness to me. I wouldn't be surprised if a garden of flowers or many other things could have the same effect. To each their own "happy place".  |

I agree very much with the "whatever works for you" mindset. The older I grow the more I side with intuition, gut feeling, personal experience over numbers, statistics, studies, "science." A statement like that would have infuriated me 8 years ago. But it is my feeling that industrial and scientific progress, things I of course champion, have given people a sense that humans have come much further than they have. I think perhaps every generation of humans in history has thought themselves the ones that have figured it out and the previous cave fools. In years, my generation and many of its widely held beliefs will be looked at as ignorant and foolish. I know in my personal life I have only hurt myself appealing to logic, rationality, or science when I've known the answer to a question inside. Obviously, I am not talking about addition and subtraction, but less defined and more complicated questions.

Wow, that's a beautiful piece of obsidian. Although, I don't believe in the metaphysical properties of gems or minerals, I find it interesting to read what different cultures have believed about them and what 'ailments' they cured. In hundreds of native encampments that I collected at in the SE US many unique stones are present.
Hematite, amethyst, clear quartz, quartzite with fine color,clarity, and sparkles of mica, finest agates and cherts, the blackest flints, crystals.
These people collected pretties, no doubt. They are collectively common at their camps. Knowing my area geology I recognize the rarity of some of the materials.
If you consider the fact that they spend their life outdoors, and may live in an area for 20 or 50 or 100 generations, they had to have fine honey holes.
Passed down for generations. They about had to have a good stone material to cut food with and do daily chores with

I deal with him on a weekly basis and love the obsidian he mines.

Tony/Catmandew has a couple tractor trailer loads for sale. Hmmmm 48000 pounds times 2 per pound, ohhhhh heck just round it off to a HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!! Now that's a guess I have no idea what he sells it for but at $25 per pound that's ohhh.... hmmm a boatload of money!!!#

i can tell you this much! fire obsidian is very rare and very expensive, good rainbow is around 8 a pound from the usa ! tony has a ton of the stuff if your looking ! and come on you guys if you think for one moment that rock dont have healing powers your all crazy!!!! when ever im having a bad day or am all stressed out i go out to my shop cut and polish some rocks and it brings a smile to my face! so is that not healing my soul!!  tell me im wrong! |
