I don't think I would have hit the roof. I just bought 6 geodes that were supposed to rattle, got them and only 1 was hollow, I called the seller and told her that 5 were solid and the auction, I thought was for 6 that were hollow and rattled. I was very nice and she said she was sorry and sent me another box that I got today. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220132184406

ya see earthdog....that is where i beleive daniels sceintific way of speaking actually hinders him.....most of us do not speak that way....he speaks in a highly educated way that we dont understand....i know i dont....and i dont mean that in a degrading way at all.....i just think he speaks in a scientific way....that screws us up....it does me.
im not sure that makes sense.....and beleive it or not i think mel is the same way.....he just tones it down a bit for the likes of me.
you did everything right about your geodes....nice and courteous....thats always good......now could imagine daniel ....asking for the same thing. ;D.
cher....im lost...but i gonna find out...kev.

cpdad : *L* Yep, I'm afraid you've got me pegged too. Man us science types just do too much writing and too much public speaking ( Lecturing * *) If I ever get too pompous or technically verbose, let me know and I'll save it for PMs to the other similarly inclined folks *L*....Mel

At this point, I have no idea what this post is about anymore, something about a paddle? That's all that's coming to mind. Steve

On a slightly different note... Earthdog - I'd love to see or hear what you find in your geodes if you get the chance. I live in Kentucky and though not a lot to collect in this state there are a few geodes that contain our state "rock" - Kentucky Agate ( www.uky.edu/KGS/rocksmn/kentuckyagate.htm) - unfortunately it's generally only found in about 4 counties in the state and most of that is private property and as far as I can tell is increasingly rare. I while back I bought a box of Ky geodes hoping to find a little something but didn't come up with much of anything. Would love to see what you find in yours - hopefully you'll do a little better than I did! I'm still not sure what to look for in an uncut geode - or if it's all hit or miss. Good luck and glad the seller made it right for you!

Mel is a very unusual "scientific type". He has a great wit and has the ability to converse with normal folks. Sometimes he does forget and spits out them big 75 cent words. He is a very unusual scientist in that he can converse with me on my level and not make me feel like I'm being talked down to.

I think everybody has contributed something here. Danial has given some great advice and discretions. Some times it seemed as if he was talking down to us, but he was probably going to a level he thought we understood. If you are an exert in a field it is hard to believe everybody doesn't at least know something about it. Not always the case. I found out many years the even the laziest and dumbest person can teach you something. I know this because people have even learned from me ;D. As I said in another post, everybody has a right to their opinion and Daniel has a right to his. Some may not like it but it is his to have......MrP

Amen MrP. Mel you are one of my favorite people on this board, if I don't understand you, well I just scratch my head and go search on the web to see if I can find out what you are saying. Heck even Steph, and E-Dog are two of my favorite people, but Susan; wow what a paddle! Terry

Tell me if this is a highly educated way of writting?
I'm sure we all understand what he was saying here. Just because he was pissed, even for an educated person, I would have thought he could have held back that discription of Sheri. Thats the part I'm not happy with. For an educated man, thats pretty bad, in my opinion. Now for the part that Cher and cpdad don't understand. I have had a member PM me and tell me I am ruining the board and that I don't have anything to say about Cher shutting me up and putting me in my place.

Ok, I've got to put my .02 cents worth in now...............what happens in Ebay should stay in Ebay.........you know, just like Las Vegas! There are great sellers and not so great sellers. And then, there are great buyers and not so great buyers. If you sell junk and are called out on it, then make it right with the buyer or quit selling! And vice versa, if you buy something that doesn't live up to your expectations, then take it up with the seller, through Ebay, Paypal, whatever. Then learn your lesson! Don't bring it over here. Hmmm, that sounds like the most logical and "educated" solution to me! If you get burned by a seller, and it happens to be an RTHer, don't come here looking for sympathy. Cut your losses and don't do business with them again. If you get burned by a buyer, who happens to be an RTHer, again, cut your losses and block that buyer. It sounds like if you come over here for sympathy or to complain, it bites you in the a$$. There are way too many fragile personalities here that can't handle criticism! And then, the few that will say how they feel get chastised! And then, to top it off, there are persons here that don't know where to draw the line and use common courtesy and keep their woman hating comments to themselves! So, as I said at first, what happens in Ebay, stays in Ebay!
Now, I know there are sales and trades that go on in between members here. Fine and dandy. But if it doesn't work out, keep it among yourselves. That's what the "PM" function is for. Use it! BUT, don't abuse it, either. I, too, have received unwelcomed, unsolicited PM's from the subject of this thread for a generic comment I made. I did not know who the subject of the post was, but this person PM'd me because he was surprised that I would make that kind of comment about HIM! I didn't know who it was about before that! Has anyone heard of a guilty conscience? Or maybe a little paranoid? Anyway, if he choses to come back, I hope he realizes that his rock knowledge is invaluable, but he needs to learn how to speak to people. I personally can't justify or excuse his behavior by saying "he's educated and that's how he speaks". BS! I have met many educated people in my life that don't speak like that. It's one thing speaking or writing in an educated manner, but to talk down to, degrade, bully or whatever you want to call it, voids out anything smart they just said!
[glow=red,2,300]Education does not give you the license to be contemptible![/glow]
I personally believe in this..................it's not what you say, it's how you say it!

remember i am not arguing here just talking ;D
dog i said before that the name calling wasnt right....it didnt sit well with me either...you jumped right in and said it before anyone else ;D....and i kinda beleive daniel himself kinda wishes he didnt say those things either....but thats just a guess.
let me clarify what i kinda meant about the scientific or educated thingy....i am bad about not typing what i really mean ;D
part of the whole problem to start with i beleive....was daniels email to sheri...where most would have said..... thanks for the refund your rock is on the way back....he being scientific...or..educated.....as i put it.......turned the damn thing into some kind of term paper...or essay.
in that term paper or essay of an email....he went around the world in it.....read it again on page 1.....he throwed out all kind of advice and diff chit that just didnt need to be there.
i think he was trying to help....but it could easily be taking as " dont try to tell me what to do".
i am not saying it was taking that way....but a lot of people would take it that way i think....anyway thats what i meant about the scientific educated thing ;D
i am taking no ones side in this issue...i just think if the email from daniel was straight to the point...and not an essay...it probably wouldnt have gone this far.
damn...mel and tekila....yaw got me headed to the dictionary...pompous....verbose....contempible....damn ;D...kev.

Actually, I wanted to use the word "a--hole" but wanted to come up with a more proper, "educated", word so I found "contemptible" as a synonym for the above word in an on-line dictionary! LOL! So next time you're ticked off at someone while you're driving, yell out that word instead and they won't flip you the bird because they won't know what it means! (he! he! he!)

I am going to miss Daniel. He was smart, intelligent, generous with his time and helpful to everyone(well I guess almost everyone). He is a wealth of knowledge and will be sorely missed around here.
He was quick to step up and protect our interests against those who wished to take over this group with commercial posts. He gave good advice and has passion for lapidary concerns and RTH.
Daniel, you will be missed by many and certainly by me. csroc

Susan, why did you post that? Was it directed at someone or just for our information?

I really wish everyone would just let this thing end, I think its a shame that someone that enjoys this hobby and this board as much as Daniel did feels their only alternative is to leave. Some of you may not like him and some of you may not agree with anything he has to say but every one of us have an equal right to be here. If your goal was to run him off, well you have accomplished that, congratulations. This all started because of Sheri and she understands just like we all should that everyone makes mistakes, everyone loses their cool from time to time, Daniel apologized for saying what he said and Sheri forgave him, Sheri has also apologized to Daniel for mis-representing what he had actually said in his email to her and he forgave her, why is it that the rest of you can't forgive someone for doing something that didn't even concern you in the first place?

My goal wasn't to run him off. I would have been happy with a public apology for the things that he called Sheri. I didn't see an apology for that! Instead, he said he couldn't accept Sheri's apology and left. Real educated.
