awesome. would that be opaline silica with mobs 6 hardness James ? Or is all opal opaline silica ? Diatom shells are said to be opaline silica, and rice hulls are said to contain opaline silica-20% by weight.

Yes, opal is not always just silica. The higher the aluminum oxide content the harder the opal is.

Congrats and nice score, vegasjames! Some of the pieces look as if they have some nice poc! Thanks. I was really excited that I won them. There is some really nice stuff in the lot and some flash in a few of the white pieces. Never worked with opal before though so I guess I will start by practicing on the opal I brought back from Lund first. Brought back a lot of different colored common opal from there.
