Howdy folks,, Parker and his pop dropped by another 200+ pounds of Rio Grande material day before yesterday and I'll be sorting and grading for awhile now. They are really getting good at agate hunting and found some great stuff this time. Got some interesting and colorful wood too. Here are just a couple of pics of a couple small ones I took for myself and some of the first green agates they've brought in.....Mel I really like this one, huge 1/3 inch poppies. exact colors and texture of Mexican Tigertail Jasper except with orbs. Gonna tumble it as is for a paperweight. Another fist sized poppy type jasper: Parker and Clayton say green agates are really rare but there is a lot of green jasper. Here are some of the first greens all half pound or less. Couple of these look real good with pink, green and or red.

Very nice!
Looks like ya didn't need to stay in Cali for good rocks, Texas be givin' the left coast a run for their money in the rock department and winning in most other areas!

Yep Bob you are right. This is the easiest rock hounding I've ever seen. They just pull up my drive and drop the load right by my shop. More than five--five gallon bucket loads this time. I'm gonna be washing and sorting for days. They tell me material is so common on the ranch that they drive the road with one person hanging out each window and hunt by truck. Don't even have to get out and walk *L*......Mel

Dang Mel, that's my kind of houndin. Gettin too damned old for all that hiking & hauling.
Be waiting to see what you've got after you wash them. May have to buy another box.

Roy, Actually poppy jasper is not all that uncommon in the Rio grande gravels. There are quite a number of forms though, ranging from well developed orbs that are very similar to Ocean Jasper to ones that are just dots or spots. The red spotted ones are pretty nice. This last load had several and some may actually be some kind of wood. I have about a fifteen pounder on the deck right now that looks to be some kind of wood cast with brown/gold moss and a multitude of white dots throughout. Going to have to take off a big chip to see if it's worth selling for the kids. Some of these appear on first look to be a bit coarse grained but seem to tumble real well so I think they'd cab well too......Mel Here's a pic of one of the OJ looking examples:
