Hey James that Green Banded Ryolite looks great!!! I was afraid you would open the tumnler and find it fill of green sludge and no rocks. LOL. Got some Birds Eye too, it's a lot harder to find the fine grained hard stuff. The soft brownish Birdseye is everywhere.

Got some Birds Eye too, it's a lot harder to find the fine grained hard stuff. The soft brownish Birdseye is everywhere. Green held up to the 40 grit high speed grinder Bill. It is plenty solid, it is porous only at the yellow areas in this particular piece. It is a variable rock with many patterns and the yellow stuff is not common. Just prepped this one chunk for tumbling. Obsidian will not scratch it. And it will scratch some rhyolites. If it does scratch, it is a fast tumble but hard to get a high polish.

Show stopper bird's eye captbob, photos too. I hear you about shopping, Ebay could keep a lot of tumblers going for not much money. Those bird's eyes would look fine sawn, will you saw them ? (14" BD) -new sawman

No cutting them up. I did face and polish one of the bird's eye pieces like the 16 lber, and that's as far as I need to go with that. I'll try to remember to get a pic of it later if you would like. I am a mineral specimen collector first and foremost - this slabbing & tumbling stuff is just to keep me out of trouble - so I would much rather have the pieces whole. Some pieces do get faced & polished to show the rough and the beauty in the same stone.
Prolly oughta take chit chat outta the For Sale section.

Wow, I love the green-banded rhyolite that you received from orrum, jamesp! Will you tumble it in the vibe with the same process as the wonderstone you received from phil?
