Busted a few windows to see the innards, will make some wild tumbles. Bill on a whirl wind journey, he's a dog. Will pre grind some to accentuate the bands after tile sawing to tumble. Got a bunch of rocks in the rough rolling, will add a few pieces of this to make the next polish cycle. Won't be long. Thanks orrumcloser

It is. May saw some here soon. wonder how good a polish it takes It is grainy, but grainy can take a polish. It is hard and seems to have plenty of silica. Will get 3-4 test samples in the tumbler here soon. Will report.

Hey James glad you like it. I have seen cabs and knife handles made from it. Both shine. I think you have to have a hard rock. Some is softer. I get the pieces that are underground so they are not weathered from ssnd, wind and rain. Shotgunner did you see these pics?

I get the pieces that are underground so they are not weathered from ssnd, wind and rain. Shotgunner did you see these pics? The one with yellow areas are the only problem I see Bill. The few yellow areas are porous. But worth the effort to patch IMO. It has a lot of healed fractures that add to it's patterns going 90 degrees to bands. Shotgunner saw them. He's supposed to get out there and fill a dump truck or two. I was tile sawing a few samples to get tumbling, hands about froze, saw water did. Lucky you in the desert nomad man. thanks for your effort, will post results as soon as they happen. Be safe, watch out for Apache and side winders !!

Don't know how I missed this one. That's some pretty cool stuff! May need 20-30 pounds of that to add to the pile.
Looking forward to seeing how they finish up.

Ever try bird's eye rhyolite ? Tumbling? No. I have some pretty nice display pieces, but they are too nice to cut up. This one is 16 pounds and I have another large one like this but no pic saved. And this one is smaller at 2+ lbs. Just bought it this week. Wondering what the grey surrounding some of the eyes is - maybe hematite?

The bottom one was $10.50 + shipping. Went to buy a smaller one he had listed and it went for 27 bucks - go figure. Amazing what you can come across if you have the time to search for deals. Different view The 16 pound piece was $75 several years ago. Less than $5 a pound.
