glennz01 - I guess no pics of the "red quartz" [quartzite]?? I am only really interested in this, perhaps. Hey Shotgunner, What you looking for in the 'red quartz'? I have some single crystals that I collected, maybe a few small clusters. Not like that pic you posted but pretty. I know where to get more from the source too back in Texas. Sorry Glenn, don't mean to hijack your post. You can PM me directly if you want Scott. Single ones like this, about an inch long. A variety before cleaning The best cluster that I found at this location: ~Roland I'm hoping for quicksilver ore or at least Lapidary grade quicksilver.

First box (containing 33-35 lbs of rock) going out tomorrow. The ground is mostly snow free so I will begin active hunting in may. (college has me booked right now) If the recipient likes feel free to post a pic. My pic is not very good (bad lighting, non wet rocks). This is the pile I had to chose from, all but 2 rocks are in the first box. I start with the best stuff first.

Your price is way high. But that is just my opinion.

Your price is way high. But that is just my opinion. Like I said, the photo is junky, its mostly just for my reference though. everything in this box I know that I could make a cab out of if I wanted to. I usually take a few slabs off most material I don't have a lot of. what do you think its worth? $0.25 or $0.50 / lb? I talked to a friend who sells tuscon who said that almost any material for $1 / lb is way too low. Look up the going rate for blizzardstone... high price for lack and white... (and I find that stuff all day long) Also if you read my first post the price is usually just right. These are a few examples of slabs I took off some of those rocks

Well, again IMO, but a lot of this is not brought to market because granite and common prairie agate is not profitable. You have to do a lot of volume to sell $1/lb and make a profit.
But another factor is the RTH factor. This site did not start as a commercial site, and many people here offer local rock and surplus at discount rates to other members. Or do trades.
My thought was that I have bought tons of rock, I like buying rock, I have bought boxes of rock on here, and that box and that price was not at all attractive to me. Maybe some of it was the picture. But I see other things in the buy-sell section where better (often names) material is sold $1/$2 per pound. There are also MFRB boxes on ebay for $50 plus shipping with more interesting material.
But I'm just saying. I wish you luck. Maybe some people want the location or lke th elook of a particular stone.

Also if you read my first post the price is usually just right. From your first post: There are 2 payments in for the box (usually) 1st is $50 covering my time / shipping after I send photos and the 2nd payment is the remainder of what you think the total value of the box is worth. I have not had anyone say that the box is valued less than $50 before but if you really think it is worth less just let me know what you think it is worth (I will know if your just trying to scam or are telling the truth). So you are expecting someone to pay an additional 2nd payment on top of the fifty bucks because these are such fantastic rocks? uh..... no.

If I just said cost of shipping + the value they think than I am setting myself up to be scammed.

All i'm trying to do is offer people a chance to get some Alaskan rock and pay what they think its worth. If I could I would ask price of shipping and they pay what they think its worth after receiving it... but then I set myself up to people trying to scam. Also the $50 on mine includes shipping (so its really only $35 for the rock). If I was trying to make a profit off this I would be asking a lot more as it can take months to fill a box like the one pictured above. As a side note that slab of feldspar is rather unusual. That is the only one I have found so far worth cabbing. Also I don't have agate in the box.. agate is just too hard to find for me to let go of

True, we do not see many cutting materials from Alaska but realistically, in many areas in the US, the kind of materials you picture are just leaverite gravel. What seems rare and unusual to you would be, as someone has stated, just gravel for driveways or landscaping in a lot of the country. As such, your prices, though maybe appealing to some in Alaska or other lapidary material poor states, seem way out of line to those of us with more jaded tastes. Just saying, you've got to realize that many many folks are offering pretty nice material for the prices you are asking. Now, get yourself a pile of that beautiful black and white Alaskan fossil coral and then you'll have primo stuff to sell....Mel

glennz01, the 50 dollars price includes shipping? What size are the boxes? Large flat rate? These are a few examples of slabs I took off some of those rocks I like your slabs of the materials you cut that are included in the box. You may want to take a photo of each piece with its identification and a ruler (for size) so people may know what they are buying and maybe it will help with your sales.

Think I'm gonna start saving gravel from work , if a guy can make 50 a box for it!! If its full of decent jasper, thulite, rhyolite, crysocholla, and other stuff like that i'd take it if its different then my local stuff. I am looking to get some more puple, pink and blue in my collection... maybe some yellow and orange. When I chose rocks for the box I ask myself Can I make a nice cab out of this rock... If I have a lot of that type of rock it goes in the box. You guys say that these rocks are worthless like obsidian.... so why it it that If I am looking for some you guys want me to pay $100+ shipping for a box. If my rock is worthless than common things like tiger eye and anorthite must be in the $1/lb or as one person said things with names... if thats the case sell them to me for what you say its worth $1/lb... not $5-$10 lb

The box size is a full medium flat rate (as jam packed as I can get it).. The reason I don't take super good pics of the box is because I am honestly asking the person to receive it pay what they think its worth to them.... not have people in very good hounding areas to say its worth nothing.

In Michigan native copper is everywere... maybe some of that or how chrysocholla and yellow/orange jasper along with colorful agates and onyx is plentiful in Arizona? Also another thing to take into consideration is that if you want something good from my state, the prices almost always higher than lower 48 states (this is not just for me bt also local shops)

If you want a box of colorful Jasper, Agates and Onyx I will be glad to ship you a Med. FRB full for $50 shipping included. Just let me know what size pieces you want. I will send you some nice stuff. Keith
