So here's the situation. My wife and I made an eBay purchase of a rough rock lot for just under $100 with shipping (35 pounds or so). The material that showed up is not what was in the photos, and there was no indication that the photos were only samples and not of the actual lot. The photos were of definite AAA grade material, but this was more like A to B grade depending on light. My wife shared the listing photos with some potential customers who were seriously interested cabs, but when they saw photos of the actual material all interest evaporated. So we contacted the seller for a refund. His reply was that he's in a financial bind, so a refund would be delayed for a few weeks and the material was not intended for cabs anyway (listing was for lapidary rough). He did offer to send a MFRB of cabbing material in addition to the 35 lb that we have now, but is asking for us to pay shipping. So what would you do in this situation? Push for the refund or take a chance on the other box?

file with PayPal immediately.
Lapidary rough is stuff to make cabs out of. What is their definition of lapidary rough?
Item received was not what was pictured. Period.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. I shy away from eBay for the very reason that you have encountered. If you think it is bad for rough, it is even worse for mineral specimens.
Take your complaint to the MAX with eBay. Maybe you can at least get the seller kicked to the curb. I've been burned so many times I have little sympathy.
Darryl.

I've had this problem with labradorite rough from a well known seller of the material on ebay. pictures promise AAA, but delivered rock is less than promised.

We have not heard back, so in the case your still dealing with this, AAA Labradorite should yield 100% full flash cabs IMO. Aside from unforeseen structural issues the cut material should be nothing short of top quality. $2.50 a pound? Even I would have been all over it as it sounds "too good to be true", but once in awhile people sell off old piles and care not about the going rate. Like Roy said too, if you need help to save your sales, people will help Also, if your "stuck" with that material, feel free to send me pics, maybe we could help sell it. Carleton
