I guess its time to say hello here. I made this account about 2 1/2 years ago but got active on the "other site" first and never did participate here, although I have lurked around RTH a bit. I had thought I made at least one post in here before today, but when I posted in the thread about Tonys BBQ in Quartzsite this morning I realized it was my first post at RTH. So I figured I better pop in and introduce myself.
I'm from Las Vegas. Kinda new to lapidary. Started cutting rock about 2 1/2 years ago (same time I started joining rock forums). Built a custom machine to work rocks and had a long thread dedicated to it at the other forums. I try to get out and hound as much as time permits. Do most of it solo since none of my friends here in Vegas care about rocks (until I make them pretty, then they all want one). But I'm used to doing it alone since my wife doesn't like camping and it is a passion of mine. I've been roaming the deserts of the Southwest solo for a couple decades now, and I've always been a natural rockhound. Its just in recent years I started learning about what the rocks actually are and learned that I could really pretty them up with some lapidary skills.
Anyway, I'll try to participate around here in the future. Lots of good people here.

Welcome. I am from Vegas as well and know what you are talking about. Used to spend a lot more time going out solo. Not so much anymore since joining the gem club. You should come check it out. Our meetings are the first Monday of the month and we do a lot of rockhounding trips.

Ah, you would know me in person James. I see you at the meetings and on an occasional field trip. I don't think we've ever talked a lot, but you know me. Karl is the name.

Here is a recent picture of my shop. The custom machine is against the back wall but its partially hidden by the Lortone 10" slab saw sitting on the bench in front of it. The custom machine is a 14" slab saw, an 8" trim saw and a cabbing station all in one. Runs off a single 5hp electric motor. If you want to browse the photo album that documented the build you can see it here. Don't miss all the sub-albums in there. smg.photobucket.com/user/ToTheSummit/library/FRANKENSTONE

Very nice machine!! Did you name it 'Frankenstone?' Thank you for posting a pic of it and your immaculate and impressive shop! I remember seeing it while browsing through the shop pics on the LC forum. I really like how and where you have everything set up. Thanks for sharing the process of how you made your cabbing unit, too, tothesummit.
