Hey folks, I have just cleaned my stones and started them on a run of 1000 grit. I hope that this will get them ready for a good polishing! I can hardly wait until I am able polish them and see what the outcome is. I have been cutting guitar picks (by hand) for a few musicians around the southwestern area of Kansas. They seem to be doing very well and I am trying find an easier way of finishing them. Generally they take around an hour to two hours for each one. Then they are ready for use. I'll have to get some photo's of these and show you what some of them look like, they are very interesting looking! I have a couple of photo's that I'll have to get posted on the Members Photo's page. I have a couple of different polishing medias - the plastic pellets and crushed walnut shell. I don't know which might be better than the other - any ideas??? I'm open to suggestions. I was wondering if I used the walnut shell - do I need to pre-treat it with a run of polish before I introduce the stones??? And if so, how long should this be done for??? I have a smaller tumbler that I used to polish rifle shells in and it works beautifully. I am planning on using that one for the polishing stage, so I don't cross contaminate the bowls. If you have any suggestions that might be of some help to me, I would love to hear them. Thanks again and have a great day!

Hey Bear, my brother-in-law in Oregan gave me a rock guitar pick some years ago. Although I thought it was a great novelty and I still have it in my case, I never really used it much. Way to stiff for my likeing and it seems they would be rough on the strings. He claimed that the pickers in the Northwest use them quite a bit. Are they pretty popular in Kansas?

Hello,
Sorry for the delayed response ... my wife had foot surgery and she is putting me through the gamut. I need this and I need that ... well you get the picture ;D
We just celebrated our 23rd Anniversary today, so I have to jab her a little!
I have been selling quite a few of them. Mostly, to the Mexican/American music pickers and a few Jazz folks as well.
They absolutely love the unique designs to the picks and they are functional as well, so it's a win/win!
No complaints as of yet, and I am going on just right at a year of selling them.
Enjoy,
John

I keep hearing alot about the walnut shells, I wish I had some, but all the pictures of stones that I polished were polished with plastic pellets and they have turned out pretty good. The batch I am currently working on I have added two steps, 1000 grit then Tripoli, then I will go to cerium oxide for polish. I will post a picture when they are done. Tami
