Howdy folks, Too dang cold in the shop to saw more but I did cut up one new Rio. No sun so the pic is a bit washed out. Darker red orange than the pic. Looked a bit orby on the exterior but kind of tubey inside. Battery ran down. I'll take a closer shot after it recharges...Mel

I prefer to call it climatized. I've grown accustom to heat. Always rooted for Heat Miser in A year without Santa Clause. Goldilocks is my heroine. "This one's just right" are good words to live by. Why go outside if it's below 60° if one can wait a day for 70°?

HAHAHAHA captbob, we'd be wearing shorts and flipflops here if it was 50. You are right about the acclimatization thing. Son was stationed out of Hawaii and served in the desert back when he was in the Marines, and he has resented cold weather ever since. By now it is probably more attitude than physiological.

Mel, those are pretty nice. I like the varied shading and the touch of white in there, too. There's a good bit more going on there than you would see at first glance.

Pretty interesting up close but it was dark before my dang battery recharged. Try to post tomorrow.
I'm with Bob. Ojai, California, where I lived before, was a pretty warm spot. Texas is warm for like 9 months a year but man I hate the cold times. We actually had that dang white crap, snow, a week or so ago. When it gets below 50 degrees, I get cranky as an old bear and want to hibernate. Barely above 40 the last couple of days and I weren't likin it one bit, especially when I had to sit on the deck in the north breeze and listen to the saw run......Mel

82 degrees yesterday, only got up to 80 today, darn. Y'all can keep the cold and that white, wet stuff. Perfect weather is to be expected in America's Finest City. That's why we pay the exorbitant sunshine tax, lol.

*LOL* Soon as you said America's finest and hooked it to "city" ya lost me. I ain't even crazy about little towns. If I didn't need gas, groceries or stock feed, I wouldna even go to our little local towns. That's why they call America a great "country". The "country" is great, it's the gullderned cities that screw it up *L*......Mel

I'm a bit outside the city limits, live in the county of SD. Spring Valley just one of the ugly step-child suburbs, lol. Still considered an unincorporated city. Always love the Rio pics. Boy, they are sure diverse little critters!

Rockpicker: I had a temporary assignment for the Ag dept in San Diego one time. Spent time mostly on the outskirts surveying avocado plantings mostly near the ocean. Got to say I really enjoyed the area and the weather was superb. Better than Ventura county as there was less of that dang fog. In the city of San Diego though, it was LA style traffic. Didn't like that much. Sure were some beautiful homes in the area we worked but I'll bet they were a little expensive.
You're right. I guess, since the Rio in olden times drained such a large area, the agate varieties seem almost limitless. Each one is kind of a surprise too as often the exterior don't reveal a lot about what is inside.....Mel
