Howdy folks, Yesterday I cut a few small Rios I had set aside Nothing too spectacular but I still had fun. Was trying for plumes but the thing with plume agate is, the plume almost always occurs in nodules with vugs, soft spots, or crystal pockets. Anyway, a few pics of my cuts. Very pitted red one: Fluffy golden plumes but dang crystal pockets: Odd plumy one. This one is solid but the plume is tiny. oddly, found the same identical type and color of agate in the plume beds of the Owlhead Mtns back in Commiefornia. For those of you who are plume lovers, it's better to open these flat nodules parallel to the top and bottom like you'd cut open a biscuit. My saw won't vice them that way so the plume you see is most likely cut across the ends of the plume instead of along the long axis as it should be. That is why the plume looks like spots instead of feathers.
