Just curious as to what everyone is working on. There must be a good variety of material rolling around out there right now. I have four barrels roughing. One 6# with obsidian. The rough came from the good folks at Feather River Lapidary and is for the 2015 world tumbling contest. A few of RTHers are trying to give Chuck some competition this year. Second 6# has some Sodalite mixed with Salmon feldspar. This rough came from the Rock Shed and was a Christmas gift from my youngest daughter. The family doesn't blink anymore when I ask for rocks on gift giving occasions. One 12# with a mixture of agates. There is some Tuledad agate and Montana agate that make up about 70% of the volume. The rest is a mix of Bahia, Lakers, Crazy Lace, Moss, Green tree and some local quartzite as filler smalls. Second 12# has a jasper mix. Some green stuff I don't know the name of but like the color and a few other unknowns from mixed rough packages. Most of it is Royal Nevada Jasper and Black Butte Jasper purchased from Feather River. These are some fine looking stones. The Nevada has lots of colors and patterns. Light brown, yellow and "cream", some with layers and features that resemble dendrites. All the way to rich reds and purples, nice stuff. The Black Butte has golden yellow against a background of black and purple with some white and transparent areas mixed in. Not an advertisement for Feather River but if you haven't done either of these rocks give them a try. You have to mail order them but they gave good service, even called to make sure the rough arrived and that I was happy with the order. That's what rolling here. What do you have going?

With mixed stainless steel shot, I'm vibe tumbling a copper piece that got very black with all the annealing. Pickle removed the black, but tumbling will improve it, then I'll hand polish it.
I have another tumbler to start the removal of the white from Fire agates. It's a rotary. Both are small.
I don't tumble rocks.

Pat I admire the artistry of you folks that make things from metals. Fire agate is so cool, someday I'd like to get a nice specimen.

MrP don't play. I have coral, Rob's unakite, snowmom's impactite, mixed rhyolites, some Rios, and quartzite in the vibe. Amazonstone and labradolite mixed, coral and rhyolite mixed, 5mm garnets, and one with all glass in the rotaries.

Mine is filled with Montana moss agate and petwood from Montana and Oregon.... Those should get along just fine. I got my Montanas from Arrowhead Lapidary. Had to break them up for tumbling but it was a pretty easy task. They broke along the fractures for the most part. They sure seem tough, like a Laker, the way they tumble.

I've got a 12# load of a really random mix right now... I threw in a bunch of stuff that I wasn't sure how it would polish... there are some Montana agates and some Pet wood in there, but mostly random stuff that I dont even know what it is... will post pics in a month or so after it shines up. Some jasper... some granites and other "pretty" rocks... hehehe
I fired up a 15# barrel on Friday. My goal was to go with 100% pet wood, but I found three other pieces I couldn't resist throwing in... a core sample of some sort of marble, a little unidentified agate that really has me thinking about where the heck I found it... probably in the Yellowstone River... but its not a Yellowstone Moss agate... it "may" be a derivation or some such of a dryhead agate from the Pryors... and then a little piece of stromatolite I believe...
Gonna start a new thread to show the start of this tumble!

Very nice looking rock. Didn't know till now that I have one piece of it I got from Donnie. Saving it for cutting season to make some slabettes. Had some issues with my obsidian, gas. Started it out hot with hot water and it did fine until I opened it for a recharge. After that I had to burp it every 12 hours. This round I started hot again and cut back just a little on the grit. Will do cleanouts and skip recharge.

I didn't know that Georgia had lace agate. Will be nice to see that when your done.
