bcrockhound and ore sent me a heavy box of this fine stone. Cobbles thick sawn on the 18 inch saw and then to be sawn into tumbles on a tile saw and then heavily shaped on a grinder. am in a hurry to get this stuff into the tumbler. To be tumbled with snowmom's impactite and orrum's green banded rhyolite. All about Mohs 6. The dallasite and black impactite similar in mechanical properties.

That's some really unusual and attractive stone. It does resemble quite a bit the stones snowmom is finding in her neck of the woods.

I have a full three month head start on jamesp tumbling some Dallasite. Already have some running in 500 grit. I'm thinkin' that he finishes before I do.

I find it on the beaches here, but I Never find anything with the patterns that bcrockhound's stones have. Seems to be exclusive to Vancouver Island.

Silicified basalt makes sense.

Those are awesome pieces. That had to be a heck of an explosion to produce the huge mass of breccia that became Dallasite. It is believed to be volcanic in nature, can you picture a volcano blowing its top and spewing that much material around? You could probably see it happen from outer space. Truly awe inspiring, awesome is probably over used as a description in the language today, but in this case it really fits! Can't see enough pictures of this stuff.

jamesp, remember the recent conversation about pumpellyite? Check out the greens in the Dallasite against the green in the piece of breccia you looked at... Dallasite has pumpellyite too... I think I can see it in some of the pictures you have posted here. The common thread is that BCRockhound, WashingtonRocks and I all seem to have stuff which originated from the Canadian Shield... I think?
