Ya'll have seen this cab before. I left the stone in the shape and thickness that it was when I acquired it so the variation in thickness made it tough to figure out a way to hang it. I did not want to drill it so after much thought :idea1: I decided to do a half groove wrap which my guess would be unique to the planet (maybe, I have not covered the whole planet YET) I am sure that most of you have figured out that, right or wrong, I ALWAYS try to do things a little different. It is unfinished and I am trying to decide which way to finish it. I buy every cord and wire that is different than what I have so I ended up with this 16 gauge soft brass wire. It is too small for the groove so I plan to wrap it with silver wire. Here are some different options for wrapping the wrap. Top center: 30 ga wire Left around: 28 ga wire. perfect fit in groove. 26 ga wire. Too big for groove Crimped wire. Too big for groove but I like the look. Half round wire first wrapped inside out then outside out. Outside out is good fit and look. I will probably go with the 28 ga argent wire because when I go around the curves it does not leave a wide gap so the brass can be seen. I have experimented and I can wrap on the long straight part then push the wrap over the loops. When I get it all wrapped I will use epoxy in the holes to hold everything in place. It is difficult to get the wire off now so I have no worries about it coming off when worn. My biggest concern is a reaction between the two different metals over time. Jim

the brass is very complimentary to that cab, clever presentation, watching with interest.

Jim I don't think you will have a problem with the metals having a reaction. I know you are aware most metals major reactions are to moisture and abrasion. Keep the pendant in a wooden jewelry box or plastic ziplok for moisture and the major wear will be negligible inside of the eyes. Very neat idea on your wire wrapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will cause a reaction with some people so the exposed brass wrap will have to wait for another time. Jim

I must have ten projects going and I am jumping from one to the other. I even drilled a couple of ring blanks which I have not done in forever. You will be tagged in one of those when finished. And thanks all for the great compliments. It means a lot. Jim

I wrapped what seemed like a mile of wire on the brass wire, got it all nice and neat and I DO NOT LIKE IT. The brass looks good with that stone and I think I need to go back to it. I have some smaller brass wire so I am going to try a three wire twist and do the same style of wrap as before. Time wise this pendant is working up to being priceless but I really like this stone and I want it right. If I have to I can put the silver back on but I doubt that I will need to. Jim

Don't give up on the coiling yet! It looks really awesome with LOS. What kind of metal is it again??? You can probably use the liver of sulfur. If you haven't used it, give it a try- super easy to use. It will make a huge difference. I think you will like it with this.

rockjunquie I have heard of the liver of sulfur but I have not been able to get my liver to cough any up. Okay, bad joke. Do you have a photo of the results on silver. The wire spool says Plated Argent non tarnish silver so I am not sure if I can tarnish it. Jim

Here's an old silver piece with LOS. It brings out the texture in a wrap and makes the silver richer, I think, and less chrome looking.

I found some smaller brass (fake gold) wire that was small enough to twist three wires together and have it fit into the groove perfectly. Twisted some up. Shaped it and somebody made it too short. I made the loops a little smaller to get enough wire to make it to the hole and finished it up. I glued the ends in because I planned to give it to my grand daughter today. At the last minute I decided to take three cabs and let her choose which one she wanted. She chose a different one so I still have it but someone has offered to buy it with the silver wrapped brass. Guess I will be drilling out the brass and going back to silver. Sheesh times ten. I am going to be glad when this thing is gone Jim

That's one you will always remember, Jim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I liked both the brass and silver. Hard to choose but the brass match's the cab better.

I think I like the brass best.... gold would be even better. : ) When you get this finished, you will always look on it and remember the work that went into it. Those are generally the most satisfying... when they turn out well, that is, and yours will.
Have I mentioned how much I like that stone??? Nice one!

I forgot to mention that I sold it on another forum with the silver wrapped on the brass. She is happy, I am happy.
Pat, I still do not know what the stone is. Probably won't ever know unless shotgunner comes up with an answer. Jim
