Beautiful landscape, yet seemingly unforgiving. People hardly ever realize, just how difficult it is to get the material in the first place. I would not have the patience for it.

Interesting land, interesting rocks, interesting people.
Are they using a jack hammer? What can you tell us about the fire agate? Is it like the Deer Creek material?

Congratulations on getting access Christopher. When I was more actively cutting fire agate I tried to get collecting/buying permission from an Apache acquaintance in the gem trade but was unsuccessful. The only sources for Slaughter rough I could find were established traders with the Apache who seemed to have a "grandfathered" trading rights. But they wanted to sell in much larger quantity than I could manage at the time. Some of it is very beautiful material and you're very lucky to have an "insider" friend.

wonderful, beautiful and historic country, the mining looks tough indeed, It would be so neat to see how it is done and where it comes from. this is as close as most of us will get, Thanks for sharing the adventure!
