Hello everyone. This piece was recovered by a Facebook "friend", in a local creek located in Marin, County California. I'm thinking translucent chert? Or might it be chalcedony/"agate"? I'm not sure if there was any volcanic activity in this area.

Looks like chalcedony to me........ The area has jade that occasionally has a sky blue color. That "skin" is very jade-ish to my eye.

some broken pieces do look like that. Jade supposed to be hackly break, but I have even seen conchoidal glassy breaks. I think it depends on the felting of the crystals. And that piece does NOT look glassy to me.

You can only tell so much from a photo, of course, but I'd say Chert.
