Hello everyone. I have just started to wrap and here are my first three wraps. I do apologize for the pic quality. I took them very quickly on my phone with indoor lighting under a lamp, at night, and with just a white cardboard background. I grabbed the first white thing I could find, lol. The first one below, the rough amethyst on the left, is actually my third wrap. The one next to it is my very first wrap. It's a rough red aventurine. I will get a better pic of the first one eventually. It ended up turning out quite nice even though I totally messed up the bindings on the top. My second one is the silver one. That I did specifically for my daughter. It is a rough blue quartz (all of these from Rock Shed) that was thin enough to shape into a heart. I shaped it using a nail drill, lol.. I used to know a nail artist who got a new nail drill to smooth her client's acrylic nails. I got her old one. It shaped the blue quarts pretty good. The blue heart does have a lot of wire going on and I did that because my daughter specifically wanted lots of "swirly lines and curls". It took me a long time let me tell you. I wanted it to be perfect. She wore it to school the next day and said her teacher loved it. I was happy with it but the drawback is that if all my wraps don't turn out like that, I get sulky. Yesterday I tried my 4th and 5th wraps and they just did not look good. By the end of the day and I was still trying to get them right, I just got fed up and pulled them apart. In the trash the wire went. I didn't even want to save it I've just started to tumble also, the first batch of different quartz's are tumbling right now. Then after that long process maybe I will have some nice shiny rocks to wrap instead of rough stuff. Anyway, I have enjoyed reading all of your posts here and seeing your wonderful pics. You all are an inspiration to me! Thank you! Thank you for looking despite the poor pic quality

Thank you! And yes they really are my firsts. My fourth and fifth looked more like they should have been my first and second ones. I should have taken pics of those yucky ones and posted them. But by then I was so discouraged and the only way I felt better was to destroy the evidence, lol. But the heart in the silver wire took literally one full day, with breaks for necessary routine things like eating and showering. I'd say I started mid-morning and by 6 pm I was done.
The smaller one, the amethyst, took about 2 hours so for me, that seems like minutes compared to the heart one. My mess-ups from yesterday took forever. I'm dying to start a new one today but I've got a lot to do.

Welcome to the forum. Your off to a great start. The heart turned out really nice and even better that it was for your daughter.

Beautiful wraps, KathyG, and welcome to RTH! I really like the heart wrap you made for your daughter and how you used the natural xtal of the red aventurine in your wrap. Keep up the good work!

Those look really good. Remember we are our own worst critics. Keep wrapping and you will see yourself improving and even integrating new techniques as you learn. When I started wrapping a wise wrapper told me; practice, practice, practice.

O MY GOODNESS!!! Those are really very nice for your firsts. Even for NOT your firsts. You clearly have a knack for this. And it sounds like you have a great cheerleader, too. : ) My daughter's are probably my toughest critics!!!
I missed what kind of wire you are using. I don't know what it is, but it won't be long before you are using silver. You're doing very well. I'll be happy to watch you grow and stretch. : )

Thank you all so much, I kind of feel like a citizen amongst celebrities here because you all are so good and experienced and I've read this forum for a while, just amazed at all of you and what you accomplish, and you're taking time to comment on my work, I really have to give credit to all of you because I read this forum and got tips and tricks like what wire to use when beginning, the tools and how-to of the basic wrap (of course Bikerrandy's tutorial) and all of your posts and pictures have helped me soooo much..you have no idea, so thank you everyone, seriously !! To answer the question about the wire, I ordered straight from Parawire.com and got Champagne gold 21 ga. square and half round. They did not give a choice as to 'dead soft' or anything!! So I had no choice really, either 21 ga. or 22, and so on.. Also I got Silver square and half round. Plated, not filled. I'm not even sure if Parawire comes in 'filled' gold or silver. I took advice from the posts here and just went for parawire to practice on. My son said, 'is this GOLD? !!" I said, yeah it has some gold in it, and he thought I was the best mom ever because I could suddenly make GOLD jewelry, hahaha

Those look nice a very well done job. I also like using the para wire . But you will do nice things with real sliver . So much easier to use I think .

I still have not gotten any. Lazy, I guess. I tried to learn with jeweler's brass and almost gave up- it was so tough to work with!!!

Kathy, Rockjunkie (Tela) is one of the best wrappers there are. I respect every twist and turn she makes. I think from your first wraps you will do awesome. I suck at it but I can do some other silver work ok. Keep it up you will do fine and then get addicted, and then spend way to much money and then spend even more:)
