While my machines are ruining out in the shop today, I took some time learn a bit more about taking pictures. Today I played with tripod, florescent lights and real slow shudder speed.I cut and polished this agate a few yeas ago and never get tired of looking at it! It is 5 1/2 " across the face.

Half the fun is the photography. The slow shutter speed will get the whole rock in focus, well done. Fine subjects.

While my machines are ruining out in the shop today... Was this a freudian slip? haha. Seems like every time I run my big saw it either breaks down or I ruin something. Beautiful photography - please keep it coming!

I have taken pictures for about 60 years, but am just now starting to learn a few things. The main thing I like about the tripod and slow shutter speed is that there are no reflections from a flash and I don't have to fool with diffuses. On these I set the camea up and used remote shooting from my computer, never knew I could do that until a couple days ago. As in cutting rocks there are always something new to learn.

It sure must help on composition having the big screen. Can you operate the shutter from the computer ?

I do all of the setting on the computer once I set the mode I wish to use. Today I am using the AV mode so I can change the f stop. I change the f stop, focus, whatever on the computer. I got lots to learn!! I hook computer to camera with the usb cable. I just took a picture of a 5x6 slab of Biggs Jasper that the wife has been carrying around since the mid 70's still got saw marks on it. I need to sneak it out and do some lapping and polishing.

Thanks woodman. Next camera will have full remote control thru computer and cable. Sounds like the ultimate. Good on you, your photos(and fine specimens) reflect your efforts and equipment.

Nice photography work! The agates are pretty wonderful also. What is the name for the agate that has those beautiful yellow colors and tones?

It came with a pile of rock the wife bought at an estate sale. It had the end it is sitting on cut off, just showing white. I recut it 90 degrees from that and got what you see! I was real glad I decided to recut it.

This is another unpolished slab from the wife's stash! about 4 inches by 6 inches. Any body got any idea where it might have come from?It should polish up real good!

Judging by the white swirleys around part of the outside rim, that first pic is an Oco geode from Brazil.
Gonna have to hook my Nikon up to the computer and see what I can do. Don't think I can trigger the shutter from the computer, but it'll be interesting to try other things out.
