I think I posted a photo of this stone before it was a cab but not being one to take the time to look and see here it is as a cab. A good Frank favorite idon'tknowite but also a wowite. I am sure that a crystal people could identify the crystals but my totally uneducated guess is feldspar. The black is the same chatoyant black that I find all over the place here and to me is another idon'tknowite. I have a new way of lighting for macro shots. I have a super duper flash light that has like 180 lumen that will blind you in half a second and I hang it about a foot above the table. I can hand hold a super macro shot at 160tieth of a second shutter speed coming off of a black stone. I do not know what magnification this is other than a whole bunch. There is only one stone better than this rhodonite, and that is rhodocrosite. I am stuck with the rhodonite because I sold the two slabs of rhodocrosite in Q for a hundred bucks. Half it's value and four times what I paid. Okay. done crying now. Jim

beautiful stuff! I think I have the sister to the top one here. Rhodonite/rhodochrosite is so very cool, I have never seen it in real life, but the photos I have seen are magic! Thanks for the show!

I think these may fit into the variolite definition, too, Wampidy. I have found some posts which have very similar material and they label it as variolite. the sparkly part of the black is probably augite, I think you are right about the feldspar. when this rock was cut, the material was about as 50/50 as you could get. You can see the feldspar crystals are the 'bumpy' part of this rock. My friend will be cabbing some of this in the near future. will be interesting to see what happens there.

@wampidy I love your mystery rock- bet it's even cooler in person.
I know what you mean about the rhodochrosite. I'm hanging onto most of what I have. Good thing there is still so much good rhodonite, but the Oz stuff, which I prefer, is getting harder to get.

This was written by Franks wife.
Frank is looking over my shoulder and says "feldspar crystals in a maffic mass. The maffic mass could be hornblende but hornblende is very easily metamorphosed into other rare maffic minerals. Maffic means dark, iron rich, usually magnesium rich and always less than 50% silica. Good stone."
I was half right. Jim

Then I must have the step child to yours and the one posted above ha ha I call it snowmomanite I had problems getting it to polish in tumbler but it will see cab machine soon so maybe I can get one on it ... I really like the wild stuff going on in it as well as the gold colored Shiney flakes . Thanks again Deb for the rock !!

I am one hundred percent positive that no Chinese were involved in writing on this stone.
Shotgunner, did you read the description by Frank that I posted lower down? Jim
