Literally I wrapped my husband's birthday present - a clear quartz point. Well, it's actually a piece of a larger one that had several nice points growing from it. Since I don't have regular points, I had to use this one for my husband's birthday yesterday. He had said a while ago that he wanted a quartz point pendant. So I realized I better get started on it. He was to be home in a few hours. This only took me an hour and a half, good timing for me considering that I spend much longer on other wraps! I put it in a dark blue drawstring pouch along with a card that my kids and I signed.
It's my 6th wrap. I knew the odd shape would make it difficult to secure in the wire, as I didn't have enough time yesterday to really think it through. As I suspected, it was a bit loose even though I did the 3 wires directly outlining the shape of the point really tightly. It looked so nice that way, no other wire except the outline on the side and the no-frills or swirls on the top (had to be manly, though I was dying to swirl those wiresF).
So I had to secure it somehow and decided to use the binding wire to wrap vertically around the point and do a tuck-in binding, if that makes sense. And those wires just wouldn't stay together to look real neat so I decided to just leave it be and thank God I got it finished in time. Again, pic quality is not the best, I only have my phone as a camera, and I took these pics rather quickly. I really should take better ones later when he comes home and I can have at it again. The orange color is the reflection of my kitchen light inside - I had stepped outside to take the pic just before it got dark.
He absolutely loved it and is wearing it now. He asked me to do another one, he liked it so much. It made me so very happy.
This next one is a rough green aventurine that my daughter wanted me to do for her. So i did. Technically this is my 7th wrap, and this is one of the stones I wrapped and then destroyed, lol, so I've finally gotten it right this time. It's got some lumps on it that make shaping the wire around it a bit awkward but hey, that's all I've got to work with and I'm thankful for that. The bottom right hand swirls are a bit roughed up, I had them on the left and it wasn't balanced so I had to actually undo the swirls and reposition them to the right of the stone and then swirl them. So not totally smooth but I'm happy with it.
I'm just waiting for my tumbled rocks to be done so I can pilfer through them and pick out some that I can wrap. I'm starting to have dreams about different designs. I wake up thinking Wow, that's really cool but I'm too tired and lazy to get up and draw them out. Apparently I'm addicted to this. Thank you very much for looking!
