Rules: Nothing has changed, Entries are not required to be started in the time frame of the contest, only finished by the deadline. All entries however will still require a photo of the slab, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Again, please remember to include a pic or two of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will do my best to monitor the other forums for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. I have a small request, because I am not always 100% confident in identifying all materials, if everyone could do their best to remember to ID the material (even if it may seem obvious) it would help me at times, I get concerned I will make a mistake if I guess when I am creating the poll. If you have no idea on the material, that's perfectly OK too I have entered my fair share of mystery materials, there is no shame in saying "not sure what this is", usually we get some ID help through out the contest too which is a bonus. GR has seriously stepped up with a MEDIUM flat rate box crammed with an amazing variety of slabs in an effort to heat up the entries. SO there is one small catch... This Prize lot will be awarded to the winner of the next contest with 10 or more entries... If this month does not bring in that many competitors, we will roll the prize over to next month!
A big thanks to GR!Good Luck everyone! Carleton

That sure is a beauty roy. That one will keep me on the sidelines for this month. I do not have a slab in my possession that would create a cab to compete with that. You sure have some killer materials to work with. Chuck

Well I had a little time so made a little something out of an end cut from the other piece of the slab you see. I just wanted to test how the material works so I stuck with the natural shape. I have 2 more small pieces of this stuff I may work some day. Very hard cutting and hard shaping the stone due to the copper. This is Michigan copper with Jasper

Please forgive me for jumping in at the last minute - literally - I had full intentions of joining in last weekend with a sci-fi jasper cab ... then it broke. Tonight I decided to enter this unusual material instead - I made the cab from slab to polished within the last two hours. Northern CA (probably Burris Creek) hematite/jasper. It is metallic enough to stick to a very strong magnet. I didn't think to much of this rock when we brought it home - we found it at a garage sale - the guy gave it to Eva for free because she loved the red with blue contrast - I just figured it was a yard rock at best. It's been our screen door holder (still is) until last weekend I got permission to cut it just to see what was inside The slab The design Preform The finished cabochon

Ok, I have not had very good luck trying to enter this contest, last month with my Crysacola when I went to remove some scratches out of bbc.co e top, I dropped it on the concrete floor, need less to say I am now the proud owner of 3 pieces of Chrysocolla. This month, I thought I had a nice entry and now I have pits in the top. Slabette Preform Cab There is always next month and the month after that and the month after that and the month after that and the month after that.......

You're not the only one. I can't help but notice that his last posting day was when the last contest poll was put up - a contest in which he submitted an entry. I'm hoping the disappearance didn't have anything to do with the results

I'm hoping the disappearance didn't have anything to do with the results I don't think it would be with the results... Something must have happened in his personal life. Although I do think more people need enter and even more need to vote... I actually think the contest would be better if it was anonymous submitting. I know sometimes I submit stuff even if I know its not going to win anything... however I do think that some people vote for the person and not the item.

I don't think it would be with the results... Something must have happened in his personal life. I certainly hope you are correct and I don't want to make assumptions but I do notice that activity has continued on his Etsy page so I'm sure he just needed a break from this. I didn't want to say anything but I have felt uncomfortable since the close of the last voting and I can't really pinpoint why. It was a very close contest and he did submit such a gorgeous cabochon that certainly deserved to win. Anonymous submitting requires an enormous effort on the part of the contest admin - I've been associated with a couple of forums that have such contests and people get burned out on the management pretty quick and they fall into disrepair. I've been thinking along the lines that it might be fun to start a "shape of the month" contest like they have in my local rock club. Instead of monthly mailing out of prizes maybe start a points "pool" and the person who accumulates the most points over the course of six-months or a year wins the box. My problem is I'm working very long hours these days and I don't have the time or energy to manage it.

however I do think that some people vote for the person and not the item. I think that's a crock of horse hooie. I could care less who made the cab when I vote. Granted, it's usually one of the premier cab makers here that get my vote, but that is because they put out the best cabs! What is lame is voting for your own cab. *cough*
