So we had planned on leaving after we dropped the kids off at school and the dogs to boarding, but snow and Icy roads delayed our start. No worries. I still got to my secret slag spot and picked up some goodies. Zoom in these first few pics if you cannot see the glass littering the ground. And our bounty: All big pieces per my request. Found this off the road, but was too big to dig out. Chert We stopped a couple other places and got some cool stuff but I didn't take any pics of that yet. Tomorrow is blue quartz dig. Saturday was the blue quartz dig at the Vulcan quarry in Cartersville. I filled one 5 gallon bucket with mostly big stuff and then left for jamesp house to kick it. He was kind enough to saw one of the bigger rocks to see what was inside. The Quarry: Traded a guy named George some nice purple slag with white running through it for this clam The blue quartz that Jim cut My load including the top bucket of coral that was handsomely given to me. Thanks! Went a recycling place and this was around the front of their office Good trip. Lots of goodies and good company with friends.

Fiberglass insulation plants create a lot of slag glass Jimi. They sell some of it to glass recyclers

jamesp but is it colorful? I'm looking for color. There's clearer slag glass that are end pieces of things made at glass factories (like blown glass). Some can be found in and around old factories from what I've been reading. Ps check your PMs

They do not like it because it has to be manually broken up to go thru their grinders. I think it all comes from Owens-Corning also near my house. The chunks I bought at the glass recycler were clear, shades of green or brown, some blue. Not many bubbles, some up to 30 pounds. I need to explore the woods around the Owens plant. They may have old dumps in the woods.

Jimi, check out university art departments or private studios where glass blowing and other glass art forms are practiced, you will get lots of colorful cast offs. When I lived in Illinois, the glass building was just down the street from where I lived and there were piles of colorful chunks of mixed glass in one corner of the parking lot, just piled up. I had no interest in glass at that time, so left it all sitting there, but these days I probably would have wandered over and asked about it. missed opportunities, who knew?

broseph82 we have a glass studio here in Chattanooga that has been open for several years. I'll give them a call and see what they do with their scraps.

I'll need the mold of your "dowel" to make anything that you're referring to. That'll be my million dollar sale!
