Krystee, I started this thread because I thought it could be a valuable resource for all of us. Books on Owyhee and other types of picture jaspers are few and far between. So far I've only located one book on the Owyhee jaspers. Little by little we can accumulate pictures and hopefully names and locations for most of the jaspers from that area.
There are lots of people selling these materials. Some even offer the rarer varieties from time to time. Most sellers know the variety names of the materials they're selling, but very few offer locations.
I've sent an email off to Hans Gamma, author of Picture Jaspers, Treasures of the Owyhee area, Oregon. Hopefully in a few days I'll hear back from him, and be able to get answers to some of my questions.

I've noticed that a lot of Oregon jaspers ring like a bell. It seems to be related to the hardness and high quality of the jasper (other really hard jasper, like mookaite, do it, too). I didn't think/know that jaspers were heat-treated.,

Thank you, Mrs. Pat! Very pretty Chicken Track jasper, roy. How can you tell if the picture jasper slab has been heat-treated?

Here's the heat treated Biggs dry. Wanted to get a wet pic outside, but the wind is gusting over 50 MPH. Heat treating does weird things. Tap this piece with your fingernail and it rings like a bell. More from yesterday. Succor Creek. Deschuttes Owyhee Mtn. Dendritic Just spotted these beauties you recently posted, Don. I like your heat-treated Biggs. Is one of the confirmations for heat treatment of picture jaspers the ringing bell sound it makes when you tap the jasper? Just kidding, Don, but I do wonder why it rings like that after being treated...

LOL, couldn't tell you Jan, but if one of our knapper members knows the answer, I'd sure like to know.
Still blowing like crazy, so getting a sun lit and wet pic of the Biggs is out for today. The purple colors pop when the material is wet.

This came today. 2=1/2 lbs of rough. It's listed as fairly rare, and limited supply. White Cloud picture jasper. Here's what the seller had to say about it. "Here is a chunk of a rare old time picture jasper, mined by hand in the Owyhee country of Oregon. Nobody but the miner seems to know where this one came from (and he aint talking about it). Extra ETRA rare to find any of this jasper at all".

The pic above is upside down. I couldn't get it to balance right side up. The white streaks in the pic really are white. They will produce white clouds and streaks in the sky of picture slabs. I would guess that's why the miner named this material White Cloud.

Thank you, roy! Do sellers usually disclose information to potential buyers that the material has been heat-treated?

I've been told that this is "midnight" biggs jasper, but have never really been positive about that id. I have 2-3 more slabs of it and haven't seen anything else like it. I'll dig out a slab and post a pic when I get a chance.

That's a beautiful pic jasp pendant you designed, Don. I am not sure what type of picture jasper is in your pendant. I've seen Deschutes with a dark landscape, but haven't seen any Biggs, although it could be Biggs. It looks like Biggs to me since the "hills" are not as defined as the ones seen in Deschutes which is supposed to help differentiate the two jaspers, but I am not sure. I have also seen one variant of Owyhee picture jasper called Black (or dark) Sky Owyhee.
