Do you have a photo of your tumbler. That brand is not one of the more common types. Installing a roller of some type is the normal method so the barrel hits a wheel that spins and keeps the barrel from wearing. EDIT: I found this link to UK evans tumblers and when you click for the larger photo there are blue rollers between the barrels to do just what I mentioned www.ukge.com/en-ie/Evans-Triple-Three-Speed-Stone-Tumbler__p-1200.aspxChuck

thanks a lot will give it a look cheers chuck In the photo there are three vertical rods going up in between the horizontal rollers. On each of the vertical rods there should be a wheel that keeps the barrels from wearing out. Chuck

Greetings [billyd] Billy yes all rotary tumbler barrels seem to do it and is it more noticable especially with a rubber barrel, I modified my 3lb Beach with a bolt about six nuts and a Lortone C-Series barrel guide (basically a plastic wheel with a hole through the centre). My YouTube videosI take it that you have an Evans junior tumbler? Note my modificaton I can only use 1 barrel at a time as there is not enough space to run two Evans or Lortone 1.5lb rubber barrels, however I can run either an Evans or Lortone 1.5lb rubber barrel or an Evans or Lortone 3lb rubber barrel or a Lortone 6lb rubber barrel, most of the time it's the Lortone 6lb rubber barrel in use. Please check out my Sticky's below. -- Please click images to open larger images in a new Tab, same with everything that is Underlined! I currently have a 3lb Beach (UK), Lortone QT 12/66 (USA) rotaries & 2x Viking Vibrasonic (Diamond Pacific) (USA) virbrating tumblers, with Silicon Carbide grit F80, F220, F600, F1200, with Tin Oxide (1.0 micron) & Aluminum Oxide (1.0 micron & 0.3 micron) polishes. I hail from (The Barony of Seabegs) Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, U.K, where aliens (15mb) sometimes come for a visit & about 4 miles west from that monstrosity & 7 miles west of this new monstrosity! Billy. When you get Ians roller take it along to your local bearing shop, every reasonable size town has one. (look under bearings in the phone book). I think with a bolt from the hardware shop and a ball bearing race from the bearing shop you should be able to fabricate a quite reasonable substitute roller and it will cost peanuts.

Billy, I've looked out my spares and have two, choose large or small, or both if you need one each end of barrel. Cheers Ian

That is really nice of you Ian!
Billyd, I had that problem but my rotary is a Thummlers AR-2. It only rubbed in the very beginning when I used it for the first time. It created fine black dust. I panicked. It was my first tumble ever, so I worried that it would rub away my barrels and I'd come back to spilled slurry all over, with holes in my barrels. And then it started squeaking also. I panicked again, picturing steam from an overheating engine. Once I calmed down, I realized it merely needed oil. After my husband oiled the thing and the squeaking stopped, the barrels no longer rubbed against anything, magically.
What I did notice was that when the barrels were rubbing, the back individual rollers were only sporadically rolling. Once oiled, everything rolled nicely. That may not have been your problem, but I thought I'd post my experience since my problem (rubbing barrels) was the same.
