Further North than Bolinas is yet another of a series of Agate Beaches, this one just north of Trinidad, in Humboldt County. The name of the park is Patrick's Point State Park, and it is gorgeous. We have taken three trips, and mixed agate/jasper/petrified wood hunting with side trips. Agate Beach is pretty popular in the season, so the beach can get fairly full with agate hunters. This means it is also pretty picked picked-over. Stuff can still be found, though. I was once whacked in the shin by a nice piece of whale bone. I have never been in the winter, though I want to, as the hunting is supposed to be better. I have had a little more luck at Dry Lagoon, a little to the north. Both locales are pretty as heck, and near some other gorgeous sight-seeing: www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157627474355616/www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157631133919074/www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157635290609785/Enjoy, -Stephan

beautiful, wish it was close enough to visit 'in person'. Whacked in the shin with a whale bone... sounds so exotic to me! I like how you have just jumped right in and started posting, enjoying the things you are showing us.

Your pictures and vacation look like you had excellent rock hunting in some beautiful areas. Your trip reminds me of the great vacation we had in San Diego a couple of years. The side trip to Torrey Pines and the beach was the best part of a very good trip. Being outdoors and having two grand kids plus the other three adults help me collect rocks on a long strip of the beach was especially memorable. Thanks again for your article

stephan welcome - I hope this doesn't come across awkward but it is an honor to see you join us here. When I was first getting into the hobby a few of years ago I found your Bolinas photos and spent a lot of time drooling over all of your photo albums and reading your blog - which I can't seem to find now. Anyway, welcome and thanks - you were an inspiration to me without even knowing it

Thank you, everyone for your kind words.
Snowmom -- it's been fun to jump right in. I'll kep posting while there is stuff to share (and then get out and find more to share, I guess).
Victor -- it was fun. I had no idea there is rock collecting alon Torrey Pines. Had i known that when I was last down there, I really could have driven my ex crazy
Tommy -- not awkward at all. I am flattered. The blog still exists, but I haven't kept up on it it in quite some time. thanks for reminding me about it.
