All righty now were talkin! My favorite subset of jasper, orbs and poppies. Beautiful set of pics. Makes me miss the hounding at our Hunters valley ranch. I really like the mystery poppy. Mystery to me too but very nice indeed. Got to remember to take some pics next week of some Rio poppies I got recently...Mel
PS: Your unknown knobby looking pastel poppy example is a Bubblegum agate from South Dakota. Those often have eyes and orbs. There are also some real orbicular agate types from that area.

Stephan, Yep, I owned a ranch in Hunters Valley for about 15 years or so Poppy deposits right on the ranch an many more throughout the valley. Used to hunt the poppies all the time......Mel

You must have quite a stash of the stuff, I would imagine.
Rio poppy? As in Rio Grande?
I'm pretty sure my knobby isn't bubble-gum agate, unless the stuff is migratory (or a swallow carried it). I've never been to South Dakota, and I quite certain I didn't buy it.

There are agates just like Bubblegums in California Utah and and Arizona for sure. Since they are essentially a type of chert nodule, suspect they occur many other regions too. I think I've tumbled all my supply by now so I don't have a rough pic to show you. Here are some tumbled.....Mel

Nice material, and nicely tumbled. I like it, and I see the similarities.
I have some (not fully developed) theories about orbiculars. It does seem that they are most common where Continental plates meet, though.
