As title asks. Wife wants a sphere maker. Im not too thrilled with my slab saw by Covington, but I see they have sphere machines that aren't too bad on the wallet (smaller versions).
Any advice welcome

Do take some time looking for a used one. They are not complicated machines. I have an old one that so far has been rough grinding with diamond brazed cups real well. Just trying to dial in the polishing part. Use "searchtempest" to search all of the craigslist sites in the country. You can limit it to the number of miles to search. And, if you haven't yet, put an ad on the sale page here. I understand this doesn't answer your Covington question but in any case good luck with your search.

I do have an old Covington sphere machine in the shed, I have never used it so I cannot give you any advice on it. I do like their older saws better than their new saws though.
I also am taking one in on trade next week, not sure of the brand. I haven't seen it yet he is bringing it with him when he comes to pick up a saw, he said it works good and has all the cups.

If I'm not mistaking, that's an old Victor machine. Same company that built my little sphere machine. With all of the cups included, it should be a bargain even with the shipping added in.

Charging an extra $35 to ship the cups separate for some reason. Odd, they could go in a box and set right on the pallet? I would still like that machine in my stable.

Hmmmmm, wonder where my trucker buddy is headed next ? If he's working out of that part of the country, he could stop in and check it out. Have to see if I can get in touch with him tonight.
