After some very terrible attempts at wrapping stones I'm pretty sure i found my groove for setting certain stones. 1st setting show-able to the public .lol Need a little more work in the shape of the bail dept, some straightening and going a little easier on the wire to prevent making marks, and after a few more attempts they should start to turn out a little better. Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied on how everything worked out. Including my homemade groover. Thanks for all the different tips on here.

Did you use a drill press for the grooves? I did a tut on doing it that way a few years ago and it works pretty slick. I have done all mine that way.
Good to see others making their machines and yours must work pretty good. I had problems with the bails at first too but easily overcome. Jim

Thank you, for the great comments. No problem, I'll show you what I came up with in a few min. It's pretty much what Wampidy describes but in a mini version, portable.

Its light weight, portable and it was just stuff I had laying around the house and shed. I glued a soft plastic top on the table base to aid in sliding the stone around without scratching the bottom, and you can adjust it up or down to where you would prefer the groove to be cut on the stone. The blade also doesn't cut you if your fingers manage to touch it. Works great, I'm happy with it.

Bet that one spins fast. Sweet. Get ur done spirit. Thanks Man! It can. There is a adjustable speed setting. Next, I would like to add on a depth adjust to just push the stone against a guide so the blade can go in only as far as I want it to. I have something in mind to try out.

NICE! Contraptions made out of stuff "just lying around" are always best, lol. Have thought about the cutter that routers use, they have a flat spot you touch up against to have a precise, repeatable depth. But then you wouldn't be able to reset the depth for a different stone. Also, as the cutter wears down, it would make your groove shallower.
Hmmmm.. yeah, sounds like you need a hard stop that is adjustable.

Way to go. That is exactly what I do except for I have a small pan of water with a brick and plastic on top. Much cooler and no dust when working in water.
I tried using a plastic washer on the burr the right size to set the depth. Didn't like it too much so now I just touch the top of the burr while it is spinning with a fine point permanent marker. Not perfect but it works. Probably the best would be a thick plastic washer glued down onto the burr. This is a great example of hind sight. Now that we are kind of brain storming that came to mind.
Hope your plan works because groove wraps are super easy, fast and do not take anything away from the stone. Jim

hahaha Didn't see rockpickerforever s post on the second page. Good point about the wear that I did not think about. A solution may be as simple as holding a file up to the plastic washer to match the wear on the burr. New washer for each burr but mine have worn down fairly slow.
My problem right now is finding burrs that are thin enough. If anyone has a solution for that please let me know. That is one reason I started wrapping with cord. I didn't have wire big enough and if I twisted two wires I do have it is too big. The solution for that right now is to let the cabs sit in a cup. Jim
