Look for the high spots along the creek, places you might choose to camp. You can bet the places the point makers chose were similar. looking at maps showing old trails, etc might also help if you can get your hands on them. JamesP has set an example for me to know the geography and history of the area I am searching... Go find some! Those are beautiful points!

Some one found a gold mine. let's rent a back hoe !! Savannah Rivers are prized points. They sure are similar to each other. And they do not look like typical Savannah River design. Just saying. Were they found above Clark Hill Lake ? Black is about never found below Clark Hill. Neither is that base design. My opinion, those are made by a knapper. Hope I am wrong.

nope james...he is finding them...he is also pulling pottery shards...what at least what i call shards...maybe 2 x 4 inches...he will not let me photograph them..
the points that he gave me a few weeks back...as far as i am concerned are milky quartz...that is laying all around clarks hill...but yet was pulled from the same creek bank...i know a lot about stuff around clarks hill lake...i live there every weekend and for weeks at a time during spring..summer..and fall.
it was the black ones that kinda threw me off also...thats why i said i can confirm 80 percent of material was local savannah stuff.
he is a retired game warden...huge plus for him...i will not name the creek...but it may be easy to figure out...the problem with the creek is that most all of the property along it is privatly owned...and as you may know...you just dont trespass in the backwoods.
anyway can confirm legit...kev.

cpdad- Forgive my suspicions. That makes those spectacular finds. I get suspicious when I see real fine artifacts like that. Because they are so incredibly hard to find. Being ex warden says a whole lot. Hat's off to this finding.

Jamesp,
I had the same thoughts you did, those are dead on the points that are coming out of Mexico right now. The Mexican points are sold in lots of (50) with 1 or 2 larger points making up the set. Most of the groups have a few points made from what looks to be some kind of Agate ! I get a listing weekly on the points that are up for bid and usually there is one auction with a halfted Flint Celt in the group ! I have a couple batches of these that I give to Scout groups and folks that want to make up (real ) arrows for awards and whatever ? The points (ARE) made by Mayan ancestors tho, I saw videos by Yucatan Knapper or maybe Knapping Yucatan (I think)that showed the local Indians doing percussion Knapping using the (THREADED) end of a fairly long 1/2 inch bolt !
Count the points in the group photo ( 50 plus 1 or 2 knifes )? Do the points have a shine ? (Patina ) $6.00 -- $13.00 per auction. Most auctions will have 6 to 8 Black points included.
Sorry to throw a wet blanket here but I will post the E-Bay site when I get another alert in case anyone would like to pick up a set for a den display or ? They ARE fairly well made, look better than 98 % of the points I find on the camps I hunt !

After Queering the wardens credibility, I noticed my give away stock was almost Kaput. I just gave a local FBI agent the last 6 charcoal colored points I had so he could make a framed primitive weapon display, he was going to have them mounted on shafts and fletched then ( weathered ) to look like something that would have come out of a cave dig or something similar. That dude is one story tellin individual so I can hardly wait to see the case AND hear the yarn HE comes up with.
After checking my stock I looked up the auctions on the HRC TOOLS STORE , I saw a set of 55 points I just couldn't live without. I just happen to have several empty Riker display boxes , the 5 large agate spear points and the 50 small Arrowheads will just fit in there nicely and fill the empty space on the wall of my fishin shack over on the Mississippi River.
I think I might make up some story about Indian burial mounds and try to remember to put my auction receipt in the back of one of the cases for when the Federal guy's show up with the cuffs and guns !

My honest opninion, I would have to agree with James... The style of flaking looks like many of the points you often find in souvenir shops... The key feature that I see that gives them away is that flake scars do not originate from the edges and do not carry all the way across the points...

Just received new batch of give away points from HRC TOOLS, the small hunting points were acceptable but the 5 large points / knives were not even close to being as pictured. The larger points were really plain Jane as opposed to the Agate appearing on the auction pictures. If anyone does any bidding there , watch out for the word ( similar ) in the description. Points ARE similar but fairly plain earth toned.
Just a heads up if any one checks out the auctions there !

guys can confirm...this is 80 90 percent local material....i know it like the back of my hand...it is not from mexico or anywhere else...this material came from our local creeks or river...i know areas where savannah material can be found that the average collector would not even have a clue to look.
i know this gentleman well...he has looked over stalling island...and arrested trespassers attempting to collect illegally.
he retired from the military as a game warden...and then retired again as a game warden.
i see no reason that he would not let me bring these points to my campsite...anyone going to graves mountain is more than welcome to swing by and scope them out.
as i said...can confirm...local material...and as i see it...kinda hard to find civil war stuff...and ebay stuff on the same creek...kev.
