James, Thulite's a varietal name of pink/red Zoisite. No relation to quartz. Manganese gives it its red color.

All the thulite I have been around is either pink and green or pink and black. How do you call it thulite if it is zoisite? I am confused. Not a rare thing. Jim

Thulite's simply a marketing name for pink and/or red Zoisite. Thulite is Zoisite. I didn't mean to imply it's rare. Only that the pink and red varieties (Thulite) aren't as common as the greens worldwide. Our local Thulite doesn't always have black. Zoisite's colors can be variable...You're in Wyoming, right? You guys have a Nephrite/Thulite mix that's fairly unusual. We have something similar but it's a Vesuvianite/Zoisite var Thulite mix.

Here's a better example of some local pink (no black) Thulite: It's actually Clinothulite (Clinozoisite var Clinothulite)
