There are so many factors that it is a hard question to answer. If you are doing a basic 2x3 wrap, round wire would best. The gauge would depend on how much contrast you want with your project. If you want a lot of contrast, use 20ga base wires with 22ga wrap wires. If you dont want as much contrast use a smaller ga of wrap wire.
