Found this rock on Crescent beach on the Olympic peninsula in WA a couple of weeks ago. My friend, who was with me, thinks this is just barnacle spots, but they don't look like that to me. Could they be in the actual rock?

I agree with snowmom. I've never seen barnacles leave spots like that behind. ~Roland

Classic Washington beach Variolite. The "orbs" do show throughout the stone if you were to cut it. Awesome find, lilacmoth!
