Fished this out of Lake Cushman the other day, one of Gem Trail's locations. It's big and red and has silver-colored spots all over. Any ideas what I have here? Is it toxic?? lol Don't want metal poisoning. Close-up of the silvery bits All the dark spots are metallic bits

My guess would be jaspelite which is simply red jasper and hematite. The iron ore hematite is silvery and is often found in combination with red jasper which of course, is colored by the presence of iron salts.....Mel

Sweet, so it's polishable! I'm keeping it then.
Mr. mohs, yes it's a fairly mountainous region, at the foot of the Olympic mountains. The lake is littered with jasper.

lilacmoth, I camp up near the Hamma Hamma River, if you know where that is. There are several creeks that shoot off from the river that hold some nice Poppy Jasper. Love that area. Reminds me a little of Norway or Alaska.
